Introduction

My preliminary task for my Media AS level coursework is to produce a school magazine cover. The requirements are to use a student's picture on the magazine cover as well as using a mid shot. The school magazine cover must also include a masthead with appropriatley laid out text. My thoughts on this project presently are that I feel it is a postive idea because it's creative and school orientated therefore it is about something we can all relate to. My target audience is mainly for students as my aim is to immerse students in a better quality school life by motivating them to strive harder with school work. It will therefore also appeal to concerned parents as they will be able to learn more about events and activities at school as well as any other relevant information. I am hoping to give my magazine a sophisticated look yet I do not wish for it to look mundane as otherwise it will not attract students who are the main target audience. The purpose of the magazine is to inform both parents and students of what is going on in the school, yet there will be quizzes, polls and competition's to entice students. If it were a real magazine it would be distributed monthly because events in the school only occur that often and many students would not have the time or drive to read a school magazine every week due to the fact that they have studies and other activities. I hope to attract students by making the magazine appear bright and snazzy. This should hoepfully pull in students attentions. In order to do this I will experiment with a range of typefaces and colours picking the ones which I think will appeal best to students.
